I Went to Amsterdam

After close to a dozen trips through the Amsterdam airport, I finally went into the city. Mama and I took a long layover trip exploring the city. The day was beautiful for taking a tour of the canals, walking the streets, and shopping, with a quick stop for ice cream.

Blood Orange & Yogurt Ice Cream and a beautiful street corner with climbing ivy and flowers.

Bright blue hydrangeas and Elvis street art.

An inviting corner cafe I wish we had time to try.

One of the many house boats lining the canals. Wouldn’t it be so fun to rent a house boat?!

One day wasn’t nearly enough time to see the wonders of Amsterdam, but I know I will go back sometime soon. There are so many museums I’d love to see and a huge library that I wouldn’t mind getting lost in for an hour or two. Have you been to Amsterdam before? What was your favorite part?

Scenes from a sunny day in Amsterdam while we sat and drank a coffee.

Rose & Cardamom Hot Chocolate at our fave new cafe in Edinburgh, Scotland: Lovecrumbs (don’t you love the gold mug tea cup?!).

First stop when we got to Aberdeen? Lunch at Foodstory. Aside from being an adorable little shop and having an ever-growing selection of gluten-free baked goods (we tried a lemon blueberry pound cake that was delicious), their daily soup offerings are fabulous.

More (non-instagram) pictures to come and maybe a story or two.  In the meantime, I’m watching the Olympics on TV in real time. Jealous?

Marfa, TX

Mama and I are spending the weekend in Marfa.

We spent the day road tripping through West Texas and after exploring Marfa, were surprised by a music festival happening in town.

We are staying at the fabulous El Cosmico in a small pink trailer aptly named Lil Pinky.

We will spend the weekend exploring, visiting museums, listening to music, and relaxing as much as possible.

So far my culinary experiences have included canned green beans, cold fried catfish, and some nachos. But I’ve also seen the rolling hills and plateaus of West Texas, heard the rolling thunder of a thunderstorm, and met the Mayor of Marfa. So… I think the life experiences outweigh the food.

Enjoy your weekend!
