San Fran Tales

San Francisco Murals

Friday morning at 10am I landed in San Francisco.

I was there to work at the Gluten-Free Expo but had a day to explore before work began.

After dropping my bags off at the hotel, I immediately took the BART (San Francisco’s subway…) into the city.

I had spent the better part of the afternoon on Thursday, making lists and mapping out my course of action. It has been years since I’ve traveled in a new city by myself and I was excited and prepared to take full advantage.

San Francisco is full of things to do, so, as to not overwhelm myself, I decided to stick to one area and explore it well. This trip: Mission District and a bit of Hayes Valley. I had a list of restaurants, stores, coffee shops, and a bar or two and my course of action all written out in a notebook and with that, I set off.

A Weekend Away

This past weekend, I took a quick trip up to Maryland to visit family.

From the beginning (dinner at Woodberry Kitchen… oh my!)…

to the end (relaxing in the hammock after a family pool party)…

I had a fabulous time!

I hope you had a great weekend as well, enjoying the last bits of summer.

I Went to Amsterdam

After close to a dozen trips through the Amsterdam airport, I finally went into the city. Mama and I took a long layover trip exploring the city. The day was beautiful for taking a tour of the canals, walking the streets, and shopping, with a quick stop for ice cream.

Blood Orange & Yogurt Ice Cream and a beautiful street corner with climbing ivy and flowers.

Bright blue hydrangeas and Elvis street art.

An inviting corner cafe I wish we had time to try.

One of the many house boats lining the canals. Wouldn’t it be so fun to rent a house boat?!

One day wasn’t nearly enough time to see the wonders of Amsterdam, but I know I will go back sometime soon. There are so many museums I’d love to see and a huge library that I wouldn’t mind getting lost in for an hour or two. Have you been to Amsterdam before? What was your favorite part?

Friday… Weekend!

Happy Friday everyone… only a few hours away from the weekend!

I only have a couple hours of work and four hours of cooking standing between me and a weekend with the family and I can’t wait!

Here are a few foodie links to peruse over the weekend.

Joy the Baker’s first blog post… I love going back to the beginning and see how things have changed in a blog!

A recipe I’m making at work today.

I’ve been dying to make a pavlova! This one looks fabulous.

Is it crazy that I’ve never made a homemade margarita? I think I’ll try this recipe.

A few places my fam and I will be eating this weekend: Perla’s, Supper Friends, and (if mom gets her way) HopDoddy… from there, who knows?!

I hope y’all have a fabulous weekend… enjoy the sunshine if you’ve got it!

Dreaming of New York City

Y’all… I think I’ve reached a tipping point.

Anyone who knows me well, knows that I am dying to take a trip to New York City. I’ve been to New York City a few times before (the pic above is from my last trip nearly four years ago), but in the past year I have heard about so many new restaurants and stores that I can’t wait to go back. Roommate can vouch for this, because I ask her nearly every week when she’s going to take off work and go with me. She still hasn’t answered me…

Other than me actually going to New York, the only solution I can see is: Brooklyn just needs to stop having so many noteworthy cafes and cool spots to visit. It would make things a lot easier for me. And people just need to stop blogging about their trips to New York… I would greatly appreciate it.

I have this crazy list that keeps getting longer and longer. Want to see?

1. Visit & take a tour at Mast Brothers… remember those guys? I wrote a post about my obsession with them and chocolate.
2. Go to Stumptown Coffee… curse you tumblr for always posting pictures of their place and their coffee cups. (This is a Portland based company… but I won’t get into my wanderlust for Portland right now.)
3. I just finished reading a series of articles in Kinfolk about Marlow & Sons so I would love the chance to visit all their locations.
4. Eat at Pure Food & Wine… during the Raw series at culinary school, a guest speaker raved about their food.
5. I just want to stroll around Brooklyn… so much is happening in Brooklyn right now and I would love to just see it all in person and explore.
6. Run through Central Park.
7. Go to church at Apostle’s Church.

And that’s just off the top of my head…

Soon, and very soon, I shall return. I can feel it.

Where are you dreaming of going?
